Technorati Blog Directory no more?
I was surprised this morning after visiting the Technorati blog directory, I never expected to get a 404 -error or page not found. At first, I am puzzled, I thought that maybe I clicked the wrong URL. So, I tried it several times with the same results, a 404-error or page not found.

Therefore, I investigate and I found out that Technorati has relaunch its website and transform it into a full-pledge advertising network from a blog directory. Welcome to the new Technorati.
What’s new with new Technorati?
In this new platform you won’t find their popularized “claim-blog” or “authority indexing of a blog”. Since, according to their staff, it was being redesigned and optimized to help publishers get known to advertisers by their quality contents thus increase their earnings.
Do Technorati hinted for the relaunch?
As far as I am concerned, I never heard a news about its plan for a relaunch. I think, there is no point for them to do so. After all, they are the one who knows the best for their company.

The only thing that I noticed before the Technorati relaunch is their “authority indexing” seems not working at all. My latest article on the directory is almost three (3) months old already. I know I am not the only one experiencing it because I checked some blogs and we are having the situation.
Disadvantages of new Technorati Platform
To be honest, I do not know how this new platform affects blogs that’s been listed from their directory for a long time before the relaunch.
The only clear thing that I see in this new Technorati is that, if your blog was in top 100 or in the first page of the directory and you are receiving traffic from it, then say goodbye to it. The other concern is the backlinks whether it is no-follow or do-follow, I am not sure if Technorati will keep it or not.
Technorati as Advertising Network
It is not new, that Technorati is serving ads. In fact their advertising arm, Technorati Media, is one of the top ad network that is considered as best Adsense alternatives. Now, that they go full time, we can expect an Advertising Network that is competitive and a sure threat to all old ad network, that may be include Adsense. Who knows? Yes, come to think of it, Technorati has all the list of almost all websites and blogs in the world in their directory. They know what site or blog are popular and what ads fits into it.

Yeah.. I only realized this now. Been away from blogging for a while. A bitter thing this is to hear. I liked the directory and was hoping to add my new blogs to it.

When I wrote to technorati to ask what had happened to my account, I got this reply:
“Technorati has re-focused its website to serve as a resource site publishers who wish to earn advertising revenue thought their content. More about the changes to the website can be found here: http://technorati.com/welcome-to-the-new-technorati/.”
In short, they completely changed their mission without giving people a heads-up!

Hello CJ, thank you for that additional information. Yah, technorati changed almost everything and removed the feature that made them popular.
I respect their move, however, we deserve to know their plans, before they implemented this major change or the least they can do, is to add a simple notice, in their 404 page, for us to be aware of it, but they didn’t.

So all my technorati tags are GONE?
I have a bunch of posts on my blog referring to bronken technorati tags [-(
I.C Tiempo says
Hello, I am afraid that all of those are gone, even my technorati profile is redirected to 404 error. Perhaps it safe to conclude that tags and links to technorati blog directory are all gone.
There is only one thing that I am not sure of, that is the links from technorati to our site or blogs. So far, the links to my blog did not decrease.
